SimpleCaddy for Joomla

Integrate a simple shopping cart into your content. No need to set up a complete system like VirtueMart if you are only selling a few items or you don't want to setup a complete shop. SimpleCaddy is made of a component for the backend, 2 mambots/plugins and one module.

Checkout is done through email to the site admin. He/She will receive an email when someone wants to buy an article of your site.

The Joomla 1.5.x version also allows for PayPal checkout.

The mambots/plugins are to display the "Add to Cart" button and info in the frontend and the Button itself in the beackend when you are editing your contents.

How to use:

Install all elements and publish the module and the 2 plugins.

In the component in the backend you will find a simple list with a code for your product (for example CP001). Define the title of your product and it's price. Save and publish the item.

Now in your content (standard Joomla Content!) where you describe your product, you will want the "Add to cart" functionality. Simply add the { simplecaddy CP001 } (use { simplecaddy code=CP001 } in Joomla 1.5 ! ) tag in your content and on the frontend the Button will show up. Of course you can use other codes than CP001, that's up to you. Just remember that this code must correspond to your article in the backend.

The module is there to display the user's cart. Publish it in a place to your convenience.

The shopping cart in the frontend is a standard one, you can add more articles only by clicking the corresponding "Add to Cart" buttons. In the cart itself you can change quantities or delete them completely from the cart.

The checkout system is very simple: Fill out the form and press the Order button. This will send an email with the contents of the order to the admin of the site.

That's it. For version 1.0 no checkout systems with PayPal or other institutions, but they easily be added if necessary.

Version 1.5.4 for Joomla 1.5.x includes PayPal checkout.

Novelties for version 1.5.4 of SimpleCaddy for Joomla 1.5.x (only)

Added:

  • A "standard" article to be added to the cart. This is a normal item, without options (it is NOT interactive). This item will be added to the cart ONCE only and can represent shipping cost or participation in a PayPal fee. This item cannot be removed from the cart by the customer but will be removed if the cart is emptied. It will not stay alone in the cart. Fill in the product code in the config screen for this (section finance).
  • The module is now included in the package
  • Possible errors with plugin or module are displayed on SC's admin panel
  • Confirmation emails can now be made out of a standard content item. Use the #orderheading# and the #orderdetails# tags in that content to have them replaced with the order info. Add anything you want (images etc) to make your email look better. Declare the ID (content ID, last column of the screen) in the Configuration|Communication section
  • Simple store management is now working. A button is provided to decrease the number in store for the product by the number of the order. (see Edit order screen)

Changed:

  • Tax will now work and will also be added to the PayPal checkout cart. For this to work you must remove the jos_sc_orders from your db before installing this version -OR- add a column called "tax" (without quotes) to this table after installation of this version.
  • The cart contents is now stored on the server in a server cookie. No more troubles with customers unable to order because their security does not allow cookies.
  • The Empty cart button now works correctly.
  • Language files are now copied in the correct place for component, plugin and module

Remember only one thing, you are trying to make money with this, so test it before blaming me or anyone else for any kind of functionality or dysfunctionality, I take NO responsability for that.

If you DO make money with SimpleCaddy (which, obviously is preferred!) please consider a donation:

Have fun and make a good business!
